Overview

The voices played an important role in my project as the aim was to create space for these individual experiences and how they are embeded in social reality.

1. Survey

At first, when I was still figuring out the topic, I started making a survey on the topic of language. After having stumbled upon Miranda Frickers writings on Hermeneutic Injustice - in short: the injustice of not having appropriate words to describe ones experience - I wanted to figure out what peoples experiences with “not having words”. I created the survey both in english and german, as to reach more people in my immediate circle.

The survey was not very successful in providing input for my thesis content-wise, but for this reason it helped me narrow down the topic instead to what it ended up being: the queer experience and its connection to inequality and language. When I published the survey at first, the questions were rather general. I added questions regarding experiences around sexuality and gender later on. In the end it was clear, that the survey was not a good format to acquire the kind of information I was interested in. The answers remaining short and inconcrete.
